astro city control panel

The Astro City Control Panel Reproduction Control Panel High-resolution printed Reproduction is an exact, high-resolution replica of the original Astro City Control Panel that appeared in the Astro City comics by Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson from 1995 to 2003. This reproduction panel was created using measurements, photographs, and inspection of the original control panel at Astro City’s production office in Kansas City, Missouri.

The first controller

It’s been a while since I’ve worked on an Astro City panel, but I was recently asked to reproduce a control panel for a customer. The original panel showed its age, so I used modern printing techniques to create a high-resolution version.

The second controller

For my second controller, I decided to go with a high-resolution print. This was mainly to get a better idea of the dimensions and a more accurate panel. Plus, I wanted to make sure that the letters and numbers would be sharp and clear. The process was straightforward: first, I exported the image from MAME as a PNG.

The third controller

To create a high-resolution print of the third controller, we need to use a special process called vectorization. This will allow us to clean up the image and make it ready for printing. The first step is to open the image in Adobe Illustrator. Next, select the Image Trace option from the Window menu. After that, we adjust the settings until we are happy with the results.

Making it better – 4th generation

Now that you have your reproduction panel, it’s time to install it in your Astro City cabinet. Here are a few tips to make sure everything goes smoothly.
